Planewalking Guide
Author: Justin

Planeswalking. The power to traverse the various worlds, realms of existence, planes of existence, universes, however you want to call the things that make up the Multiverse. Now, what is the Multiverse? The Multiverse is the thing that you live in. Or, rather, you live in a very small section of the entire Multiverse, for in truth the Multiverse is infinite in scope. However, an explanation of the Multiverse is not the point of this guide. Rather, the point of it is to define how one goes about planeswalking, and what is done to protect you.

In order to travel through the planes, there are a few options to take. The first, and perhaps the most well known, is through magic. Spells can be performed with magic, which will either directly take someone to another plane, or place you upon the planar pathways. What are the planar pathways? The planar pathways are the various routes that exist within the Multiverse that allow travel between the planes. They are kin to silver pathways, which cross through the Multiverse; invisible paths of power, which only the truly skilled can see. Magic is one way that the planar pathways are seen. However, it is not the only. Psionics is the other way that most people use to travel the planes, for the powers of the mind can be strong enough to do anything that magic can do, and without as much stress upon the body. Rather, the use of psionics puts stress upon the inner reserves of the mind, and as such will lead to a state of black out from large amounts of usage rather than the destruction that can result from misspoken spells. Psionics, as such, allow to travel directly to other worlds, or to allow the person to be put upon the planar pathways.

Traversing the planar pathways between the worlds is not easy, either. Within these demi-realms, so to speak, exist beings, which have been unseen since time began. With such age comes the ability to use powers the likes of which mortals will very rarely even begin to use. Magic and psionics are as innate to them as breathing is to a human being. However, the true masters of the planes are able to overcome such things through wits and strength. Sheer strength of arm is not of matter in the demi-realms of the planar pathways, since here it is the mind, which dictates what occurs. Travel is only as fast as the person can believe, thus giving more leverage to both psychics and spellcasters.

Why are there so few people who claim to be planeswalkers? It is a test of true courage and ability to be able to find the paths that lead between the worlds. It is an even greater show of skill to be able to travel them for any amount of time. Since there are, in theory, an infinite number of planes, there is then the possibility of an infinite number of pathways. The monsters, which lurk within such pathways, define description in most cases, and encountering them, and surviving the encounter, is a true display. Even beyond the monsters, which lurk here are the other dangers, such as planar fluctuations. Similar to earthquakes or tidal waves within the real world, these can occur for any given circumstances. These, however, are almost impossible to escape and must be dealt with carefully. These fluctuations can appear as anything possible, and have been known to leave unprepared planeswalkers dead or worse. Anything worse than dead is something that should be considered at length.

Now, that's the beginning of planeswalking, the ways to do it, and what problems are before the potential planeswalker. Next comes how to deal with the problems that lie before those who traverse the planar pathways. Both magical and psychic methods are pretty much the same, although combining the proper defenses can be a challenge.

In the planar pathways, your mind and soul are always at stake. The things that live there exist by preying upon others. Surprisingly enough, there are enough foolish people who traverse the pathways to feed them well. So in order to prevent you from becoming another meal, the proper preparations must be taken. Some of these preparations include guarding the soul from direct strikes. This can be done by encasing yourself in a barrier of energy, such as that drawn from Eden or Oblivion that reside within Elementia. However, remember that negative energy has a tendency to heal those who are not living, and those who come from Infernia. Positive energy will heal those who are living, to a point, and heal those who hail from Celestia. So for true protection, one must be able to draw upon both with the right spells or psychic powers at a moment's notice for the right kind of proper defense. To protect the mind, again, one must erect a barrier around it to prevent others from striking at it. While more the domain of a psychic, spellcasters have been known to have spells, which can accomplish much the same. Yet in either case, constant protection of the mind draws heavily upon the powers of the user, meaning that unless something is done to keep it up at all times, the person utilizing the abilities will have to rest after some time.

Is anyone able to become a planeswalker? Certainly, if he or she goes through the immense amount of time it takes to learn enough about magic or psionics to accomplish that first task of transporting him or her on to the planar pathways. The thing that is of true importance, though, is remembering that the physical strength of the body, no matter how great, matters very little in such places. While stamina is of key importance, strength and speed are only relative to one's mind and soul.
